“From Jane Austen’s Emma to the Gibson Girl: The Shifting Silhouette of Women’s Fashion in 19th Century New England”.
  
  An Amherst Historical Treasure
The Amherst History Museum is an exciting historic house museum filled with the stories of New England’s heritage. Explore the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries in our period and theme rooms. The Museum is housed in the Strong House, built circa 1750 and on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is open year-round (except for January), and there are terrific special events and exhibits to interest just about everyone. This year’s events include:
June 30, 2001 – 6th Annual Garden Tour - This self-guided tour lets you take a priviledged peak at 8 private gardens in the Amherst area. Tickets are available at the Museum and local garden centers. The tour runs from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Tickets are $12. 
  
September 8, 2001 – Living History Day – Explore the past in person! A great family event featuring re-enactors and traditional craftspeople from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. There are exciting activities for kids – even a scavenger hunt! There is food for sale on the grounds. The event runs from 10 – 4. Admission is $4 for adults and $1 for children. 
  
September 29, 2001— Come to the Cabaret—An auction featuring exciting goods and services from around New England. Held at Amherst College’s Alumni House.
  
October, 2001 – 3rd Annual Historic House Tour – The Amherst area has a fantastic architectural heritage. The extraordinary houses in this region range from early Georgian (early 18th century) to high Victorian to ultra-modern. This date for this self-guided tour has not yet been set. Call for date and ticket prices.
